Business Intelligence

Whether recognized or not, most companies deal as much with the data about their business as they do the business itself. Much effort goes into entering, viewing and editing data located in a wide variety of repositories. Beyond the individual records, a trove of useful information exists in the summarization, aggregation and graphical view of the data.

While there is often an understanding of the reporting opportunities, businesses may not have the expertise to design and deploy a business intelligence system. And while many corporate IT departments are familiar with databases, they are often less prepared to query data from proprietary and non-standard data sources.

Solution Description

Cascade Technical Services has completed numerous reporting projects. Often, those projects involve relatively straightforward database queries. But this is not always the case.

We have also delivered systems that marry data from numerous repositories lacking standard APIs, consistent data integrity, and normalized formats. We are able to implement such solutions through a combination of intermediate databases, processes that normalize data, and custom code able to interface with third-party applications and data providers.

Technologies Used

  • SQL Server
  • Oracle
  • SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services)
  • C#

Success Stories

We recently completed a business intelligence reporting solution that brought together millions of records from disparate internal systems covering customer relationships, product licenses and customer support incidents. While logically related, the data consisted of taxonomies and primary key relationships that were wildly inconsistent. After a thorough evaluation of the data sources, we designed a series of extraction, transfer and load processes that normalized and aggregated the data in order to satisfy the need for a wide variety of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
